I have my pc hooked up to my big screen tv which I think is dying so I've been looking at new tvs. I'm going to get one with at least 120 hz frame rate which I think only looks good with high def movies but I was wondering if any of you use a monitor at this rate or higher and if you can tell a difference with games. I play ges on a 50 inch 60hz Sony LCD 1080i tv and I'm thinking about getting a 55 inch 120hz Samsung LED 1080p tv. I'd consider a 240hz tv if anyone thinks it's worth it but there are some good deals out there right now on 120hz ones.
Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

I'm a little impulsive when I start researching electronics so of course I already went and bought a new tv at lunch today and it's sitting at home waiting to be installed. I got the 120hz samsung 55 inch from Sears for $699 which is a great price. I batted my eyes at her to get the early black Friday deal Once its running I'll let you know if the increased frame rate makes any difference for games.

I was playing around with it all night (no pun intended). I can see a difference with the higher frame rate but not sure if I should leave resolution up near 1080. My video card control panel says my frame rate is 30hz at 1080 but 60hz when I drop it to the 720 range. The clear motion rate which I'm sure you have too on your Samsung is on for either resolution and I can see it working but if I click the info button on the remote it says 60p. Does the tv just not report that it's set to 120hz or is this a bunch of marketing bs and it's really just 60p with some extra features?
Currently I have it up near 1080 and it looks pretty good. I haven't tried playing games at this res level so I'll see tonight how it looks. Before, I played ges in the 720 range and it was smooth. I did log on last night with highest frame rate setting and I could see a difference but there was nobody playing so I need to see how it looks during fast game play.

It depends for me Take payday 2 for example....if i set it to 1920x1080 it forces my tv to run 24hz....shitty...but if i set it to 1600x900 it fools the tv...it says 1080p at 60hz....not sure why it does that.

Well I decided to keep running my pc in the 720p range. I am sitting 10-12 feet away on my couch so the fonts are too small at 1080 and doesn't feel quite as smooth as 720. Even at 720 it still says 60hz. No res setting shows 120hz but I can definitely see a difference when the clear motion rate is on. When it's set to smooth tv shows and movies look really fake like I'm watching a play through a window. Some programing looks so fake I can't take it seriously so technology is ruining my stories dang it! I still like it though.
One nice plus for me is my old tv cut the top portion of the screen off because it would not auto adjust since I was using a dvi cable I think. Now that I'm using HDMI my video card auto adjusts the screen size to fit. I didn't realize how much I was missing. Some game modes show a team score at the top...in all the years I've been playing ge:s I've never seen that until now.
This is weird but after a couple hours of looking at my new tv with the higher frame rate it is messing with my head. Higher frames are closer to what we see in the real world so my eyes have been playing tricks on me in real life. It sometimes feels like I'm watching tv when I'm not if that makes sense. I'm going to make the claim right now that when 4k ultra high def tvs with even higher frame rates become the norm people are going to start having seizures or lose touch with reality since tvs are looking more and more like real life.
